Update development site - total site refresh
Greetings,
I am trying to update my development site so it mirrors how my production site appears. I am running Kentico 6.0.4423. My steps were...
Export from the production site - I checked to export everything, including physical media files and all documents. I then when to my development site and imported all files into the existing site instead of creating a new site.
It appears that new pages were added to the site, however, pages that existed on the site were not updated with new content, even though many of them have material that is more current on the production site than what is on the development site.
What is the best way to do a complete site refresh?
Thanks
Mike

RE:Update development site - total site refresh
Hi Mike,

The best way to mirror a server is to use the backup/restore approach. You would make a backup of your database and restore it on the development server. Then you can copy the project files to development and update the Web.config connection string. Would that work for you?

Sandro

RE:Update development site - total site refresh
Greetings,
I responded to this post yesterday, and checked today for a reply - the system never kept my response to you.

While your solution listed above in your response is an option, it is not the ultimate solution for me. I don't have access to the servers and database. To do your solution would involve six or more folks and three plus months of time. I would have to open a project request with our Information Systems group, they would have to have the request analyzed, tagged, and entered into the work queue for the database administrator, server administrators, and a host of other parties involved.

There should be a solution for this through the Kentico CMS interface.

Thanks
Mike

RE:Update development site - total site refresh
Hi Mike,

It is possible to accomplish this through the CMS by using Content Staging or Import/Export; however, since there are some limitations (see documentation), the backup/restore approach may be more appropriate in some cases.

Since the import did not work for you (I am not exactly sure what was missing), it is possible that you missed the Import Files option during the import process. It might be a good idea to import as a new site and make sure all options are selected then compare that site against your production site.

Best Regards,
Sandro
