Purpose of widgets vs web parts?
I'm confused as to the purpose of widgets vs. web parts. Why would I want to use a widget in my design, when a web part has many more configuration options and thus is more flexible?

I've looked in the documentation, and can't find any clear answers.

RE:Purpose of widgets vs web parts?
Hello.

Using widgets is an option, not necessity. The main purpose is described in Developer´s guide:

Widgets introduce a support for the personalization of pages. The enhancement allows users and editors to edit the structure of page templates.

Using widgets, end user (not CMSEditor) can personalize (change) their content. Some properties are accessible from live site. This is not for web part.

Hi,

Can I use widgets and webparts in the same webpartzone?

Thanks in advance,

RE:Purpose of widgets vs web parts?
Hi,

Regrettably, you cannot. Each zone is specified if it is the standard web part zone, editor widget zone, user widget zone or group widget zone. You can use several zones on the template and place them by CSS styles if you need a special layout.
