Member	aezzell-gpworldwide - 8/31/2010 7:07:26 PM nested master pages? I found an old post (version 1-2) that stated that nested master pages were not supported. Are they supported in version 5.5? Thanks.

You can nest the templates as you want - you just need to use also appropriate page placeholder web part on the parent node so it will load the child nodes inside it. Best regards, Juraj Ondrus

Hi Jurajo,

Oh Yes true, im sorry i failed to read your post properly - my bad ( well actually, acohol )

The only thing with visual inheritance is that any child template with "inherit master page" ticked will ignore the inheritance of parent template as it isnt master template.

Plus, as it makes a tight dependancy between tree-node-level and template - its feels a little harder to maintain.

But as you said visual inheritance is almost-master-page-ish but not quiet.

Anyway, sorry to dig this up again but is there any possible way ( ASPX + Portal Engine + Unicorns + .. etc ) to achieve a scenario like below and still retain portal engine features?

Master Template 1
|----> Sub Page
|----> Master Template 2
|-----> some Page ( now inheriting Master Template 2 instead of 1 )

Hi,

I do not see any issues achieving this. The Master template 2 doesn't have to be event set as master page template (in portal engine). you will just use page place holder web part as on the root document and set the child documents to inherit only from given level and the upper levels will be ignored.

Also, you can use multiple placeholders.
