Member	Aon_Vlado - 5/24/2011 5:43:40 PM Root or Virtual Directory? What is advantage resp. disadvantage having Kentico installed in root and virtual directory? Would it be possible to have a main site in root but all other sites (same code) in virtual directories? I expect problem to refer path using ~/ or just /. The main site would serve as hub for the other sites.

Hello,

There is no difference between using a virtual directory or the root. However, there will be problems in the described setup with the Smart Search functionality and the Analytics module. That's because they are writing to disk and the indexes/entries are global objects within the Kentico instance, so there may be some conflict situations. We recommend not to use the mentioned functionality on such a setup. The paths are resolved automatically, so there shouldn't be any problem with that.
