where to culture name
I've added a language select webpart. I'm using english and hong kong chinese. the 2 language name is showing, however I wanted to change the word "chinese" to something like these "中國"

i looked in the culture settings and made some changes but nothing happens on the front end.

Hello,

In this case the Culture short name property is used. So, could you please try to change this property to appropriate value.
You can do so in Site manager -> Development -> Culture -> edit culture -> Culture short name.

apologies, I tried again this morning and it worked! with no problem at all. this was different from yesterday. anyway, thanks a lot for the support!
