Server Error in '/KenticoCMS' Application
Hi
I have just downloaded the MS WPI and installed VS2010, SQLExpress and Kentico.
I had some issues with SQLEXpress which meant I had to uninstall and completely reinstall SQLExpress 208 R2.

I then reran the wpi and reinstalled just Kentico. I created a login for ASPNET and assigned it Sysadmin roles via SQL Server Management Studio.

Kentico then seemed to install just fine and created the sample portal site. I opened the sample site and tried to edit the text in the editable region on the home page (I am following the procedures in the Kentico CMS for ASP.NET - Quick Start Guide in order to get a feel for the application)

When I rey and save the change I get this page displayed:
Server Error in '/KenticoCMS' Application.
A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (plc_lt_zoneContent_PagePlaceholder_PagePlaceholder_lt_zoneCenter_MainContentText_htmlValue="<h1>Welcome to the S...").
Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. To allow pages to override application request validation settings, set the requestValidationMode attribute in the httpRuntime configuration section to requestValidationMode="2.0". Example: <httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" />. After setting this value, you can then disable request validation by setting validateRequest="false" in the Page directive or in the <pages> configuration section. However, it is strongly recommended that your application explicitly check all inputs in this case. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=153133.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpRequestValidationException: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (plc_lt_zoneContent_PagePlaceholder_PagePlaceholder_lt_zoneCenter_MainContentText_htmlValue="<h1>Welcome to the S...").

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Stack Trace:

Not a great start :(
Can anyone tell me what is occurring here?

RE:Server Error in '/KenticoCMS' Application
Hi,

This seems to be related to the .Net configuration. Could you please add following line into <system.web>...</system.web> section in your web.config file:

<pages validateRequest="false">.

Also, you can check out this forum thread.

Also, could you please check the machine.config settings?

Best regards,
Juraj Ondrus

RE:Server Error in '/KenticoCMS' Application
Just downloaded the last version of Kentico and I've got the same error message. I followed the instructions and I put <pages validateRequest="false"/> in the web.config file, but it didn't help...
I still have it. When I just press enter twice... so it adds two <br /> tags...

RE:Server Error in '/KenticoCMS' Application
Hi,
Which version of IIS and .Net are you using? What are the application pool settings?
Have you tried the other suggestion from the first post's error message and add this to the web.config file too:

<httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" />

Best regards,
Juraj Ondrus

RE:Server Error in '/KenticoCMS' Application
Hi,

Thank you for the quick response.

I'm using .NET 4.0. And I run Kentico from the Visual Studio 2010 Express. So, it's developer version of IIS.
I added <httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" /> line in the web.config, but it didn't help.

Thank you.
Eugene.

Hi,

Is it possible to paste here the entire web.config file you have right now (blank out or remove the connection string) so we can inspect it? Adding the previous suggested thing worked in all cases. Have you placed it into the correct section in your file?

Best regards,
