site files not exporting correctly

I'm having issues updating my development server with the most up to date site. I have tried using the export tool as well as exporting the database. I see an older version of the site. I think what is part of the problem is the production site is setup to store files in the database and filesystem.

If I try to export the entire site including files using Kentico sitemanager, it will just hang. I've manually transfered all the file folders including the directory from the production server that is storing the files into my dev environment, but still no luck.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hello,

Kentico has several import/export tools - so are you referring to a site export in Site Manager? If so, the process will not overwrite existing content on the site where you are importing this package. For example, if Site 1 and Site 2 both contain document A, the import/export process would not update document A on Site 2.

The page content of a document in Kentico CMS, is stored in the database, so if you create a backup of your current database and restore this to your second machine the content of the site will display. Of course you would need to update the connection string to point to the new database.

Depending on the size of the site being exported, a site export in Site Manager can take a while to complete.
