Merge two site installation in one
Hi,

I have 2 kentico site, in separate site manager,

I want to merge the two site in one,

One site is 5.5, the other 5.0,

I see that i can export site / object and reimport on the other side,

but i dont know if I need to upgrade second site to 5.5 before,

What is the best approach ?

I have professionnal license, is the two site can coexist with different default culture ?

Thanks
Francis Harvey

RE:Merge two site installation in one
Hello.

Yes, you need to upgrade 5.0 to 5.5 to be able to import it into second 5.5 instance. In general, export / import is recommended (supported) between the same versions only, to avoid possible issue and incompatibilities.

You can upgrade your site via proper upgrade package. Every upgrade package contains pdf file with instructions.

As for license question – if you mean Professional edition for Kentico CMS 4.x, regrettably this edition does not support multiple languages. You would need to have Enterprise edition, or Social networking edition. License upgrade is possible. If interested in this, please send an e-mail to sales@kentico.com. Thank you.

Ok Thanks,

I have a problem with the template importation,

The two site use the CorporateSiteASPX page template, but customized on each side,

I changed the name and the code name, and the second template overwrite the first because they have the same guid, i start to change the category guid to make it display in two category, but I realized that the template guid will need to be changed too with the template id.

So is there another way to acheive the merge successfully without sqlserver database modification or page template/category re-creation?

RE:Merge two site installation in one
Ok,

I've finally succeed in aspx site importation,

Here's how:

1- Upgrade to 5.5
2- Change the name of the CorporateSiteASPX template in one site, make it run without error
3- Change de guid of page template category and page template in sqlserver with newid() stored procedure
4- Export and import sites in a new KenticoCMS installation, I have installed 5.5R2 package and it seem to handle 5.5 sites
5- Create a new CSS Stylesheet for the second site, and copy from the old one because it was overwrited during import (*probably same guid*)

Now I face the last problem when I try to open the CmsDesk with second site, I hope...

"Your UI profile is not granted with permission to access this section. Please contact the administrator."

I'm the global admin...

In the UI Personalization, for the second site there is no module in the combobox,

Can you tell me where I need to go to setup the access to the CmsDesk ?

Thanks
Francis Harvey

Hello,

If I get your point, you see Site manager -> Administration -> UI personalization -> Site: <the imported site> -> Modules: an empty drop down list, right?

If so, please check if Site manager -> Development -> Modules -> edit CMSDesk and so on is enabled for the new site.

By the way, you can choose in the Step 3, if you want to re-write the current objects (like stylesheets) or leave the original ones and do not import the objects.

Hi Helena,

You're right the module was not assigned to the site,
But i found that any module are assigned to this site,

Is there a way to reassign everything to the second site too ??

The document type too has been unassigned...

And why it is not assigned to it ?

Hi,

it could happen if you uncheck the checkbox: Assign all objects to the imported site in the Step 3 of Import process (Importing a site).

Hi Helena,

I tried this and I still get a UI permission information message. So when I switch from site to site under the dropdown list, I can get to the first site but not the second site I imported.

Thanks in advance!
