News pages have all same content
I have two news pages, page A and page B.
I posted a news article on page A, and it also shows up on page B.

How can I make the news sections independent on each news page.
Thank you.

RE:News pages have all same content
Also, I have two separate news sections on the front page - and both show the same news, which they shouldn't.

Hi Kit

Are both these pages using the same page template?

Thanks

RE:News pages have all same content
Gav, page A and Page B both use the news template, I suppose. I am just trying to find my way through this so far and hope I am answering your question correctly.

I created a new page A (menu item), then selected the the news with summary template and entered news.

Then I created another page B the same way ... and the news I created on A were posted there too, as well as on the news webparts on the front page.

Hi Kit

Yes that sounds correct, I am not sure how familiar you are with the Kentico platform yet but i will try to explain what i think the problem is, just let me know if it leaves you more confused...

Templates in Kentico use what are known as 'Webparts' and you then set the webparts up depending on there function, some are just for text input and others (such as in this instance) load news articles. Here the properties need to be applied to the webpart to tell it where to look on your website in order to load certain document types (eg news) etc.

These properties are applied to the template so wherever the template it is used they will have the same effect. So i am guessing that it is bringing back all news items currently on your website on both pages.

If this sounds correct i would either make the template on page B either Ad-hoc or duplicate and give it a separate name. You will then be able to change the properties of the webpart (under the 'design' tab) to target a separate location without effecting page A

Hope this helps

Gav

RE:News pages have all same content
Thanks for getting back to me, Gavin. I created a duplicate news webpart, renamed it, and placed it. I added new content - and all news changed to this new content on both pages, even thought the pebparts are named "Main News" and "Road News"

I looked at the Design controls ... but I am lost - I am sorry. Where do I target a separate location??

I think I need to take a class somewhere ....

RE:News pages have all same content
Hi Kit - No problem, most things new have a steep learning curve.

Have you tried looking though one of the guides Kentico have? They are normally easy to follow and would give you a better base knowledge on how the CMS works.

Regarding your specific issue, did change the page template as opposed to duplicate the webpart itself? as whatever you do on one page will effect both as i assume they are both still using the same template? located under 'properties' tab > 'template'

If you specify a different template for the two pages you can then update the webpart properties (specifically the 'path' field) to look at a separate location of your website for news items.

Hope this helps.

RE:News pages have all same content
Hi,

the changes appear on both pages, because you've made changes to the same template... when you change the webparts (add new ones, modify their properties, etc.) on the template, the changes will be the same for all pages using this template.

Gavin explained it nicely, thanks for that Gavin!

Maybe this KB article will help too: http://devnet.kentico.com/Knowledge-Base/Design-and-css/Page-templates.aspx

The best solution in your case will be to clone and modify the template on one of the pages. Then, you can set the Path property of the NewsRepeater webpart to make it select news documents from different location.
It means that you will also need to have the news documents placed in two separate places.

Hope this helps a bit. The beginnings can be hard, but as you learn the principles, it is quite easy to setup any scenario you want.

Regards,
Zdenek C.
