I am using My Account web part and i want to hide some of the fields displayed in the profile tab like avatar, timezone etc...how can i do that?

Hello,

for this purpose you will need to modity a WebPart file located under your_app\CMSWebParts\Membership\Profile\MyAccount.ascx.cs and espcially make changes in the SetupControl() method.
