Meta Description override appending not replacing
In my home page, I untick "page description inherit" and add a new description. But on rendering the page, the description meta data appends this new description, instead of replacing the description from the master page.

Hello,

May I ask you, if you have applied any hotfix? I have tried it on the latest hotfix for version 5.5 R2 of Kentico CMS and the content of the Masterpage description property was overwritten by the one from the Home page.

Best regards,
Jan Hermann

OK. So my default description is in SiteManger/Settings/Website/Page description Prefix, so maybe the override doesn't work for the prefix. Where should I place my default description instead. I'd also like a different one for each language.

Hello,

You need to choose your site from the dropdown list (top left corner) when you are in the SiteManger/Settings/Website settings and then you can fill your own Page description prefix, which can be also multilingual (by using localization macros).

RE:Meta Description override appending not replacing
Hi Jan,

Thanks for the tip about using localization macros for the metadata. I'll give this a try.

But my other problem is sill unresolved. I used the Page description prefix field of my site drop down to enter the text:
ANCA tool grinders are industry leaders for grinding end mills, carbide cutting tools, carbide burrs and all your CNC tool and cutter grinder needs

which is my default meta description for every page.
I then went to my home page properties and entered a new page description and unticked Inherit:
ANCA is a global tier 1 supplier of CNC tool and cutter grinders with over 35 years experience and a reputation for flexible software and accurate machines

When I render the home page, I see a combination of the two strings, not the replacement string that I wanted:
meta name="description" content="ANCA tool grinders are industry leaders for grinding end mills, carbide cutting tools, carbide burrs and all your CNC tool and cutter grinder needsANCA is a global tier 1 supplier of CNC tool and cutter grinders with over 35 years experience and a reputation for flexible software and accurate machines"

RE:Meta Description override appending not replacing
Hello,

Oh, I've got it now! We misunderstood each other. That Inherit checkbox is only for document tree structure, so when you want to have some default description for most of your pages and replace it when you type some other into that field, you need to follow a different approach:

1) Remove the Page description prefix
2) Fill your default description in your masterpage (root document)
3) Uncheck the Inherit checkbox on some of a child pages and fill its own description

Best regards,
Jan Hermann

Hello,

I am glad to hear it :) I wasn't sure, what did you want to achieve at the beginning, but after you gave an example, it was clear...

Best regards,
Jan Hermann
