Kentico Deployment and Site Import
I downloaded Kentico CMS 2 weeks ago and was learning it on my local machine. I made my site as I wanted it and then decided to try it out on my hosting platform. I made a second domain and followed the install instructions as given in the documentation without any trouble. I also followed the instructions re exporting and importing my site to the hosting server. Again no problem at all and I was delighted thinking this was a piece of cake. Yesterday then I took down my original site and also removed the trial Kentico site I had up and deleted the second domain. Then I reinstalled Kentico CMS to the server. Set up the new database connection, all ok so far. Then when I tried to import my new site into my new Kentico Installation trouble started. It was unable to complete the import process no matter how often I tried it. Then I followed the Kentico help on manually copying the exported compressed files to the server. The result was that my site is live but with a lot of things slightly different. Mostly the templates that I changed slightly have reverted to the original, pictures and flash movies absent. Also I am unable to upload any file larger than 2MB via Media Gallery - I keep getting a time out error.
I wonder if anyone has encountered such issues?

RE:Kentico Deployment and Site Import
Hello,

Regards templates and missing images: has the import process finished?

Regards the timeout: Could you please see these hints?
http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/configuring_maximal_upload_file_size.htm
http://devnet.kentico.com/Knowledge-Base/Export-and-Import/Import-hangs-on--Files-are-being-uncompressed-.aspx

Optionally, you may exclude some large areas (e.g. Templates, Media library, Users, …) from import or export and import them later. You may import global objects into the appropriate site.

RE:Kentico Deployment and Site Import
Hello Helena,
No the import process did not finish. As i said I then followed the procedure given in the help section which did import some parts but not all. I then decided to make sure that I had made no mistake and so deleted the entire site from the host server and carried out a fresh install of Kentico, then tried again to import my site and again it failed and I followed the manual import procedure which again left the site missing many parts.
Finally I deleted it again, reinstalled Kentico, followed the procedure to make a new site, then deleted that new site and tried import again and it failed at an even earlier stage than before, at which stage I went to sleep and when I next logged on my site was actually fully there online and functioning as it should. I do not know how this happened or why but it all works fine now.
The hints you refer to above differ from the documentation help but I can see that they may be useful in the future.
Thank you for your response, and I would like to say that I still think Kentico CMS is a fantastic CMS and is a pleasure to work with and well done to all who developed it.

RE:Kentico Deployment and Site Import
Hello,

thank you for your reply.

I am happy it works now. I recommended you my personal experiences when the export package is too large. These experiences are not part of documentation.

However, thank you for the kind words, it is a great motivation for us!

Best regards,
