SQL Server Requirements
Hi!

I used to a employed by a Development Partner, and was a driving force in a large Kentico installation and build. I was able to build a very complex site in a short period of time using the software, and indeed the happy coincidence that lead the company to choose Kentico as the software to develop the project in was a huge factor in the ability to get the job done given the circumstances.

Now, I'm an independent contractor with my own web services firm. I'd love to recommend Kentico to my clients given my prior experience with it. My clients are comfortable with the licencing scheme, but are concerned about SQL Server costs. I understand that Kentico can use the free SQL Server Express Edition, but I'm wondering if there would be any problems in regards to using that version? What limitations could we run into?

Thanks!
Daleth

RE:SQL Server Requirements
Hi Daleth,

SQL Server Express Edition is fully supported so you shouldn't experience any problem with it. You can see it in our system requirements:
http://www.kentico.com/Download/System-Requirements.aspx
You may also download SQL Server Management Studio Express. The link to it can be found in following blog post:

RE:SQL Server Requirements
Hi Pavel,

That's great to hear! Any recommendations regarding the number of pages that SQL Server Express Edition can handle?

Cheers,
Daleth

RE:SQL Server Requirements
Hi Daleth,

Thank you for your message.

If you don't store large files in the database, you can have lots of documents in the database. If you are interested in Express edition limitation, you may find comparison of SQL Server 2005 features here:
