Web Analytics stopped working
It was working fine for awhile, but now it only works for some reports. Browser Types, File Downloads, Invalid Pages have current data, but Page Views, Referrals and Visits only have data up to January of this year.
The schedule task is getting an error, "Length cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: length". Also, the /App_Data/CMSAnalytics directory does not exist. I tried creating it, but it didn't change anything.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
Hello,
Which version of Kentico are you using? Could you please check the Event log for a more detailed error message, if there is one regarding this problem?
Best regards, Boris Pocatko

4.0. I couldn't find anything in the event log about it.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
Hello,
There has been a bug in the 4.0 version of Kentico. The issue had the same error message as the one described by you. This issue occured if the log files had a different formant of the name than the standard one (analyticsCodename_yyMMdd_HHmm.log). Could you please try to upgrade to the 4.1 version of Kentico and check, if the error disappears?
Best regards, Boris Pocatko

Sorry for the delay. I did the upgrade to 4.1, but it's still not working. Do i need to modify the logs themselves to put them in the proper format?

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
I just noticed that the log files are being stored in a single directory (App_Data\CMSModules\WebAnalytics). There are over 585,000 files, so I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. It seems like the log types that aren't working are the ones with the largest number of files, but it's hard to sort through this many to detect any patterns.
Even if it's not part of the problem, it seems like a really bad design choice. It's taking up 20x more space than it needs to because of minimum block sizes, and it's slow as hell. I would think a database would be more appropriate.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
I moved most of the files into a temporary subdirectory and it works now. I think the problem is the huge number of files that it was trying to parse. Before I moved the files, the scheduled task would time out when I ran it, but now it completes successfully right away.
It's also possible that some of the files were named incorrectly, but I didn't see any that were.
So, it's working now, but the problem still exists, because if I move the files back the task will start timing out again. if I don't move the files back then I won't be able to track that data, and the problem will still return in a few days or weeks when a large number of new files has been generated.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
Hello,
The log files schould be deleted after the are processed. You could try to leave just some of the files in the directory and check, if it works. That way you can also determine, if there is an incorrectly named/damaged file.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
I've started moving files back in one month at a time and it seems to be processing and deleting them, although it takes a long time. I'll keep working on it and see if I can find which file(s) is damaged.
Thanks for your help :)

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
That worked. I eventually narrowed it down to 1 file that wouldn't process. If it was in the directory it would break everything and the files would back up indefinitely, but when I move it to a subdirectory things start working again.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
Hello,
Thank you for the update. Could you please let me know, what was wrong with the file for future references? Was it the oldest file in the folder? Those answers would speed up the solution of this problem, if someone else had a similar one.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
The filename was "pageviews_100109_1807.log" and contents are: LorainCounty;en-US;;7127;1 LorainCounty;en-US;;7127;1 LorainCounty;en-US;;7127;1 LorainCounty;en-US;;7127;1 LorainCounty;en-US;;7127;1 LorainCounty;en-US;;7127;1
(There's an extra new line and 28 spaces at the end, in case that matters) I can't remember if it was the oldest file or not, but the file is from January, and that's when it stopped working, so it's possible.

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
I also had a similar problem using Kentico 5.0 where just one bad file held up the processing and all analytics stopped from that point on. It seems the method processing log files needs a complete overhaul. Is this something we can expect in 6.0?

RE:Web Analytics stopped working
Hello,
Yes, in the version 6.0 will this be fixed. Damaged files will be simply skipped.
