Hardware/SW requirements
Hello,

We were considering Kentico for implementing a CMS for our website .
We have the below HW/SW configuration . Wanted to clarify if this was sufficient for starting the project . Also would like to know the bare minimum configuration requirement and optimum configuration for the installation .

Whats the impact of using a older version of IIS ?

Also can we have the same DB used for staging and production . The DB is only required to capture leads generated through the website . Pages are mostly static , traffic being around 20,000 visitors /day .

------------------------------------------------
Only one server for web and DB
OS is Windows Server 2003 R2
IIS version 6.0
RAM is 1 GB
ASP .net version 1.1.4322
Total size of Hard disk is 20 GB(single drive)
SQL Server is Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194 (Intel X86) (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
-----------------------------------------------

thanks,
Sachin

RE:Hardware/SW requirements
Hello.

We don’t have minimum HW configuration defined, as it depends on minimum SW you need (http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/system_requirements.htm). Anyway, recommended HW depends on particular project, its size and nature. We have some performance reports so you can see them on http://devnet.kentico.com/Blogs/Martin-Hejtmanek/July-2010/Kentico-CMS-5-5-Performance-report.aspx. It also contains server hardware configurations we used, so you can compare it with yours.

Just a few notes to your configuration:

RAM is 1 GB – In general, 1GB is total minimum. You should consider having 4GB at least.
ASP .net version 1.1.4322 – you need at least .NET 2.0. Beggining upcoming version (Kentico CMS 6), you will at least .NET 3.5
Total size of Hard disk is 20 GB(single drive) – this is enough for web project itself.
SQL Server is Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194 (Intel X86) (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) – SQL Server 2000 is not supported. You need SQL Server 2005 at least.
As for IIS – I am not aware of any significant impact it could have.

As for the same DB for staging and production – yes, it is possible.
