Searching PDFs in Media Library
Are the Media Libraries searchable (and can PDFs within them be indexed)?

We've developed a site and uploaded a number of PDFs to a Media Library. I was wondering if we need to set up a custom document type with it's own handling attributes/queries in order to make them searchable.

(By the way, I do have full indexing enabled on the server and am able to return results if I drop the PDFs in a folder off the root of the site, but I would prefer to use a Media Library)

Thanks.

RE:Searching PDFs in Media Library
Hi,

I am afraid but this functionality is not available in current version. We will consider it for some of the future versions.

RE:Searching PDFs in Media Library
Does this mean that there's no point in trying to get around this by creating a custom document type that would insert data to a searchable table for full indexing?
(I know I can put the files in a root directory to get around the problem, but I really like the user friendliness of the media library.)

RE:Searching PDFs in Media Library
Hi,

This is possible - you can create the documents and/or upload the pdf files to the content tree and set the full text search, but the results will point to these documents - you will also need to handle the search results links and transformations.
