Web Parts
As I have stated before Kentico CMS is a fine program. However one thing I have noticed and it is literally driving me crazy. When I place web parts on a page, frequently the configure web part dialogue appears with the message "web part not found". Also when I try to remove a web part it does not delete. And then when it does delete when I save the page, it reappears. This is absolutely infuriating. Today I spent almost 2 hours trying to delete one web part and insert a different one. When I make a change to one web part it seems to impact on another and indeed I have had web parts that I removed a week or 2 ago , reappearing ! Is this a bug? Has anyone else experienced this? AND MOST IMPORTANT! Is there a fix! Something that should have taken me no more than 15 minutes today took me 2 hours, and this happens all the time. The web parts are great, the whole thing is great but I cannot allow an inexperienced person access to the CMS when it behaves in this fashion and that then means the CMS is not serving its purpose.

RE:Web Parts
Hi,

This is really strange behavior and I have not heard or seen something similar before.

Could you please let me know what version of Kentico CMS are you using?
Are you using windows authentication or Forms authentication?
Have you customized any Kentico CMS system files?
Could you please let me know version of your operating system?
Could you please check your application pool settings according to following documentation?

http://devnet.kentico.com/docs/devguide/configuring_application_pools.htm

The Maximum number of worker processes on the Performance tab must be set to 1. If you set a higher value, the worker processes will not be synchronized and Kentico CMS web site will not work correctly. This may lead to unexpected caching of content and system objects.

Best regards,
Miroslav Remias.

RE:Web Parts
I am using Kentico CMS 4.1
My site is deployed to a hosting server so I do not have access to configure application pools.
I have not customised any Kentico CMS system files.
I have contacted my hoster to see if the application pool settings can be changed as outlined in the documentation.

RE:Web Parts
Hi,

If the application pool is configured correctly on the server IIS, please write us an e-mail to support@kentico.com with access rights to your live web site, so we can see this behavior directly on your web site.

Best regards,
Miroslav Remias

RE:Web Parts
Hi. I will necro this thread as I get the same problem with version 6.0.13
At least in my case I suspect that its caused by something else than the access rights.

The problem come and go and I have trouble to pin point under what conditions.
Just now I got this error message in the "configuration dialog"-webpage (in Firefox). I then pasted the URI into Chrome and that loaded the configuration page properly. I could then repeatedly refresh the configuration page in Chrome and fail to do it in the original (Firefox) dialog.

Can it be a cookie/identification problem from logging into the site from different browsers with the same account?

RE:Web Parts
Hi,

I don’t think so that this is authentication cookie issue, since if it would be, then you will be presented with logon page to log in. You can use the same Kentico account in two different browser instances (even different type of browser) without any issues.

I was not able to reproduce this behavior in version 6.0.13 so far. It might be really tricky to track this down, due to the fact that it is occurring only sometimes, am I right? Is there any related exception logged in event log (CMS Site Manager -> Administration -> Event log)?

Do you have exactly the same problem as described by donal073-eircom or different one?

What is the “Maximum number of worker processes” setting in your case?

Thanks,
Miro

RE:Web Parts
Hi.

I rebooted and cleaned all browser caches (IE,Chrome and FF) and the problem went away.

The problem was Intermittent.
I didn't find anything relevant in the Event Log.
Max Worker Proc is 1

I'm happy now but will try to better catch what triggered it, if it happens again.

Thanks, Magnus
