Hello,

Metafiles are in general following types of files: product images, thumbnails of page layouts, page templates, web templates and webparts. There are here more or less for internal purposes of Site Manager and CMS Desk. They are stored by default in: ~/CMSFiles and in CMS_Metafile table.
