Web Content Management Systems & ASP.NET
Hello.

I am the campus Web master at St. Philip’s College and we have completed a redesign of our Web site as recently as last year. We are in the first phase of further improving our Web site from the ground up. It has become necessary for us to look at potential content management systems for easy updating for our 70+ Web authors, workflow and other benefits. Our Web site is based strongly on ASP.NET using Master pages, content pages and user controls.

I started off my research looking for CMS options that are based on ASP.NET. Almost every one of my selections were shot down. I don’t care what we select since I trust my teammates. What I am concerned about is if we are shoving the most critical part of our Web site needs aside- ASP.NET.

Should I be worried about this? Would I be able to still make use of my ASP.NET setup even if we don’t select a CMS that is based on .NET technology? What are the advantages? I certainly don’t want to be “stuck out” if we select a tool that will not be of benefit to the foundation of our Web site scheme.

RE:Web Content Management Systems & ASP.NET
Hello,

Thank you for your message. If you select a CMS that is not based on .NET technology, you may be able to integrate with with ASP.NET application, but you will most likely experience many problems and the solution will be full of workarounds. I would suggest that you give a try to Kentico CMS - it's based on ASP.NET and it was proven by customers in 60 countries...

If you need any help, please feel free to contact our support at http://www.kentico.com/Support.aspx.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Could you give an example of some problems I might run into by not selecting a CMS based on .NET?

RE:Web Content Management Systems & ASP.NET
Well, the most common issues are sharing user authentication (single-sign-on) and integration of ASP.NET code into the non-.NET CMS. This is very general and you need to consider the consequences depending on your particular needs and architecture.
