Linking menu item to external URL
I have tried several different ways of doing this and I can't seem to get it to work.

How do I link a menu button to an external URL (and have it open in a new browser window or tab)?

Hello,

You can create new empty page in appropriate location and set 'URL redirection' property for this menu item. Please see 'Menu action' section in 'menu' section from DevGuide for more details.
