Usage of the new lightbox web part
We could not get the new lightbox web part to work for us.

Just using the defaults that creating a new lightbox web part doesn't quite work. We added the CMS.File.galleryImage transformation, so that it shows all the thumbnails and include the rel="lightbox" or whatever attribute to the <a> tags. Clicking on the images does start the lightbox action, setting opacity, bringing up the image window, etc.

First of all, the lightbox animates to the incorrect image size. It is always about 340x210 pixels.

Then lightbox window just shows the white background and no target image. The description, close, and left/right navigation buttons do still animate in and appear correctly. We could not right click in the white area and getting any context-sensitive image options (to check for image url, or save a copy to clipboard to just see if it was an overlay bug), so we assume it at least wasn't setting the <img> tag width/height, but that was probably because it couldn't load the full image at all.

Also, during initial sizing animation/loading, no 'loading' image is displayed. (We even tried setting it manually to ~/CMSWebParts/Viewers/lightbox_files/images/loading.gif but that didn't help. Although, setting it the close button to closelabel.gif successfully changed the close button graphic.)

We have confirmed that using the same URL as referenced by the <A> tag that includes the rel="lightbox" attribute does successfully load the correct image by itself in a web browser. We also confirmed that the correct lightbox.css, javascript files and libraries all loaded correctly.

We tested and got the same behavior as described above in Firefox 2, Opera 9.26, and IE7 on Windows XP.

The only Javascript bugs we could find were in Opera 9.26 and it was about a "null" opacity setting, although the background fade seemed to still work correctly.

We were using a default web set install from v2.6 that was upgraded to v3.0. We added this test light web part to the Examples/Image Gallery page.

It would be nice if there was some documentation anywhere about the usage of this web part. We could not find any references to it in any part of the web site or help documents, except to say that this new web part was included in v3.0.

Just to be clear, we've used lightbox2 before on several other projects, manually adding the appropriate lighbox JS, JS libraries, HTML link tag markup, etc. (In other words, doing it ourselves without the new Kentico lightbox web part.) So we have a pretty decent knowledge of the library as it is.

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Hi,
thank you for your post. We are already aware of some of the issues you have described. This is caused due to the lightbox in Kentico CMS is not only for images - but you can specify a transformation for it - so you can define e.g. DIV elements, CSS styles, etc.. Our developers are trying to find a solution to be compatible with original LightBox.

Thank you once again.

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
I don't quite understand your response.

I'm not too worried about the default transforms. I can make my own. I was just saying you should setup the defaults to work better, that's all.

You said something about "original LightBox", so I think you might have thought I had some lightbox version questions, which I didn't. I just assumed the latest major version of lightbox (version 2) would continue to be used. (Or use the version 1 if that's the one that is in Kentico now--doesn't matter to me.)

Mainly, I just want it to *work*. No images actually show within the lightbox 'pop-up'. That's the major problem. My original post included various other bugs and weirdness, but getting the images to actually display is the critical error that needs fixed.

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Hi,
I am sorry, maybe I was not clear enough. We took the original Lightbox functionality and we have modified it to use custom transformations - this might be the problem which causes the lightbox in Kentico CMS is not exactly the same as the original version of it.
I was ensured by the developers that they are improving the functionality of the Lightbox web part (control) to some of the next versions - so the defaults should be working much more better.

I am sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your suggestion.

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Hi,

I tried to use the light box and couldn't make it work and the only useful documentation was this post which I think says:

1. It doesn't work yet.
2. Its not documented.

When is it expected that the simplest functionality will work? ... or can you give some instruction on how to make it work now.

Regards

Richard

Well, I don't know what Richard's problems are, but my original post from this thread goes into details on how it does not work.

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Hi,
We will try to improve the documentation in the next release.
First of all I want to mention that the light box web part is little bit different from the original. Some functionality was change due to the integration to Kentico CMS. You need to use special transformation - you can see the default transformation for lightbox as an example. Then, you need to set the exact size of the image area (the images should have same size - this is not very nice, we are aware of it and we will try to fix it). Moreover, I think that the configuration of any web part is very intuitive - the only problem in light box documentation is that the special transformations are not mentioned. Here you can see the default sample of the light box web part - http://www.kenticolab.com/Web05432/Images/USA.aspx (this is our Virtual Lab web site sample, there are several thousands of webs running on the server, so it may be slower).

If you have any problems with configuration, please feel free to write us an e-mail to support@kentico.com

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Hi,

I am sorry but I am not getting the meaning what exactly you want to achieve. Could you provide more details please?

And you can remove the navigation text in the configuration file for lightbox - \CMSScripts\lightbox\lightbox.js

Best regards,
Juraj Ondrus

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Has the limitation of setting the lightbox image area to a fixed size been resolved? If so, how do you set it to be dynamic? Our specifications require the image area to adjust based on the size of the image. Each image in the gallery may be different sizes.

RE:Usage of the new lightbox web part
Nevermind, I just found it. Setting the values for width and height to blank. Apparently, my wrapping div tags in my transform are causing this to not work properly.
