Layout vs Template
Hi,

Apologies in advance if this sounds like a stupid question, I'm a newbie to Kentico and am trying to use the portal engine to create a website from scratch.

But I'm confused as to what's the difference between a "layout" and a "template" in the CMS. How do I create them and how do they work with each other? And where would a master template come into the picture here?

Thanks and regards,
sash

RE:Layout vs Template
Hi,

In the page template (http://www.kentico.com/docs/devguide/index.html?creating_a_page_template.htm) is the layout and also all the web parts (controls) with all their settings, so you can easily re-use it.

The layout is only the aspx code - it tells only which zone or web part is on the left, which on the right, etc. - http://www.kentico.com/docs/devguide/index.html?page_layouts.htm
