I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. Root of a site is a Master page. That is how Kentico CMS works. It is not possible to have home page set as a root because top level node is always the Master page. To change default home page please go to: Site Manager -> Settings -> select your site -> Default Alias Path.

Actually it is impossible to have content staging on one domain as you need 2 sites to be synchronized. Content staging is domain independent. Could you please be more specific about your request?
