Problem facing after modifying page url
Hi,

I use to manage a website and last month due to request from client I have to replace space by underscore ('_') in urls of various pages.
lets suppose initially it was "www.xyz.com/abs pqr.aspx" and I have change it to www.xyz.com/abs_pqr.aspx".
Now the problem starts here, search results on google shows old paths i.e. with Space between 2 words. When I click on this url then it opens the page which has url with underscore. Ideally it should have to show that Page not found error but now we have same page opening for 2 url's as follows in which second one doesn't exists.

"www.xyz.com/abs_pqe.aspx" (Current URL)
"www.xyz.com/abs pqe.aspx" (Old/Non-existent URL)

Can someone please tell me why this is happening, and what's solution for it.

Regards,
Parag

RE:Problem facing after modifying page url
Hi Parag,

could you please tell us if the both URLs work if you type them directly in the navigation bar?

If so, you could try to restart the application in: CMSSiteManager -> Administration -> System and delete the cache of your browsers.

Unless so and it appears only while Google searching, we may not affect this. It will repair on some time when the google renew its archive.

Eventually, you could manually restrict the URLs in CMSSiteManager -> Settings -> URLs -> Excluded URLs or hard-code it in global.asax.cs file.

RE:Problem facing after modifying page url
Hi Helena,

Yes both url's work when I type it directly in navigation bar.

--> Deleting cache of browsers, I have deleted it on server but still the problem is same. Regarding restarting application can you please guide exactly how to do so, as I have 1.8 version of Kentico and in Administration I haven't found System tab. Nethier do I have Settings tab in CMSSite Manager in this version to restrict url.

I cant hard-code it in global.ascx.cs file as I have to rebuild the code and currently I cant do so as on my local copy I have done a lot many changes which I have to revert back.

Regarding Google Searching then google is showing it (and cached it) in results only because the page exists eventhough there isn't any page at that url.

In case you are wondering what exactly the url's are then

Existing URL: http://www.nagarro.com/Technologies/Java_Development.aspx
Non-Existing URL: http://www.nagarro.com/Technologies/Java%20Development.aspx

Both are coming up in results, and when you google "JAVA development, nagarro" then it shows 2nd URL which practically doesnot exists, but still opening correct and latest page.

Parag

RE:Problem facing after modifying page url
Hi Parag,

I am sorry but the 1.8 version is no more supported (since 01/09/2008). We would recommend you to upgrade to the current version – the upgrade tools could be found here: http://www.kentico.com/Download/Upgrades.aspx

We have not met such a problem in the actual versions.

RE:Problem facing after modifying page url
Hi Helena,

Thanks for the info.
The website I am managing is developed in.NET 1.1 Framework (VS 2003). Can you please tell me which is the highest version of kentico that is compatible with VS 2003 as on website system requirement asks for.NET 2.0 or higher.
Currently I am working on 1.8b (1.8223) Kentico version.

Regards,
Parag

RE:Problem facing after modifying page url
Hi,
The highest version for .Net 1.1 is Kentico CMS 1.9 - which is also not supported anymore (all 1.x version are not supported).

Please upgrade to the 3.0 version using migration toolkit - http://www.kentico.com/Download/Upgrades.aspx
