Upload Flash File
Hi,

Could you tell me how I can upload a Flash file to make it available for my user to be able to insert on a page?

I can manually insert the path to a *.swf file that has been stored into one of the folders within the site folder structure by ftp'ing or copying it there, but I can't use the "New File" functionality within CMS Desk to upload the file.

Thanks,
Sharon.

Re: Upload Flash File
Hi Sharon,

why cannot you use the New file functionality?

Re: Upload Flash File
If I upload the *.swf file with New, Browse and Upload, IE appears to be uploading the file, but then I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error. When I refresh, the swf file isn't listed in the files, and I've checked via ftp and the file wasn't uploaded.

If I manually upload the swf file via ftp to the folder and then manually enter the path to it, it plays fine. But I can't select it by browsing the server because it hasn't been added to the file list in CMS Desk.

Regards,
Sharon.

Re: Upload Flash File - partially solved
Hello again,

I've partially solved this problem. The error I was getting when uploading was due to the default <httpRuntime maxRequestLength> setting. Increasing solved the upload issue.

BUT -- I've still got an issue of getting the flash to play, and it seems to be the NodeAlias filename. Flash doesn't like the "-" extension separator. It just displays a blank box.

If I change the NodeAlias and AliasPath entries in CMS_Tree to use a "." instead, then I can select the flash file from the tree and it displays correctly.

Can I make a modification somewhere to not use Aliases for swf files?

Regards,
Sharon.

Re: Upload Flash File - partially solved
Hi Sharon,

we found out that in IE, if the URL doesn't end with .swf extension, then IE doesn't display it (it works fine in FF). We will fix it in version 1.9b. In the meantime, you need to add the following string manually to the flash URL:

&ext=.swf

Ah, beautiful. An easy work-around until the next version is out -- which should be well before this project is finished anyway!!

Thanks,

Sharon.
