We have found the problem too with 1.8b.
What appeared to me was that searching with multiple searchterms, no matter
if "AnyWord" or "AllWords" is chosen, the resulting SQL query ends up with

@Expression = N'---last searchterm--'

In case of "AnyWord" an uploaded document is found with Freetextsearch if
the last term occurs in the document, not so if the occuring term is followed by
a searchterm non-existing in the document. Changing the order of the terms
influences the result. The parsing of the searchterms into the @Expression seems to be the problem.

(I'm curious how the @Expression will work with the combination of Like and AnyWord, or will there be a number of queries executed in that case?)

Is a path for the above available, or is 1.8c the next possible solution? (not pushy or anything ;-)
