Licensing costs and time to production
I am a systems engineer and currently reviewing Kentico to use within our clients production environments. I just have a concern with your pricing and the time to development for each individual site. We do not care to pay for a license and then determine we're actually paying for working out the bugs and such or the development of KenticoCMS. I'm concerned because basically because a lack of dev community and the newness of the product. Will you give licenses to developers who will promote your product and also participate in the development and testing of your product? I just can't see us spending $2400 on a product that shares a considerable risk. I have tested Kentico in a test environment and it does seem to be a nice tool, although I believe you should the code to implement the "shopping cart" , credit card processing, "connection to providers" and examples on integrating Kentico to perform within a production environment.

Re: Licensing costs and time to production
Hello,

Thank you for your message. Here are the answers:

1) Development time
The development time depends on the complexity of the site and on the experience of your developers with ASP.NET. From what we see at our customers, I can say that the time to production varies from 2 weeks (www.cadencecycling.com) through 1 month (www.fast-casio.cz) to several month in case of huge web sites. We don't know how many hours developers spend on the implementation exactly, but the feedback is very positive on the speed and flexibility of the development - even from developers who have just started with ASP.NET!

2) Risk of purchasing Kentico CMS
We do our best to make the purchase process of Kentico CMS as safe as possible:
- We provide 30 day trial license. We can also generate a temporary license key for your domain - some of our customers use it for development and when the site is finished and they receive money from their customers, they purchase the final license.
- For all licenses except the source code license, we provide 30 day money-back guarantee.
- The price of the web site license is really small and unbeatable (only $375 for partners!).

3) Community and support
Well, Kentico CMS is commercial product and we provide commercial support - you get 3 months of free technical support with every purchase and you can also purchase additional support (annual subscription).
One of the appreciated thing is that we provide support through chat, Skype and Windows messenger which means you get the answer immediately!

4) Shopping cart and e-commerce
E-commerce module is planned for some of the next versions. Our primary goal now is to provide a full-featured content management (almost done) and to simplify the development and usage even more (although the product is quite easy to use according to feedback we have).

Thank you for interesting questions. If you need any help, please feel free to contact us.

Re: Licensing costs and time to production
After reviewing KenticoCMS "FOR OVER 2 MONTHS NOW!!, we've decided not to buy a liscense. My main reason. I realize why you haven't included the code to implement the cart functionality

Hello,

Thank you for your message. Could you please provide more details? I'm afraid I don't understand your last sentence.

We are very interested in reasons why you haven't chosen Kentico CMS, so please feel free to post them all to this forum or send them to my e-mail petr.palas@kentico.com.

Thank you.
