   —
Let’s start 2013 with a glimpse into the past and look through the best projects submitted by Kentico partners and clients during the last month of 2012.
The existing Austrian website was out of date and couldn’t deliver all the essential features expected from a modern automotive company. The main challenge was to integrate all relevant and enhanced multi-media information concerning the broad range of cars offered by Hyundai. Kentico ASPX engine was enriched with specialized media Libraries for 3D-models and a tailor-made automated document creator API for Dealers. diamond:dogs also developed custom-made usability and work-flow modules in the back-end range. By relaunching the website, Hyundai was able to strengthen its brand and deliver on their slogan “new thinking, new possibilities” in the online-realm.

Kapsch Group is one of Austria’s leading technology companies, with about 5,000 employees around the world. Based on a good experience with Kentico CMS as their intranet solution, they decided to migrate the internet portal to the Kentico platform too. Reasons for the switch from Microsoft SharePoint were the existing know-how of editors in working with Kentico CMS and the multilingual concept. The company’s website reflects its size: about 5,000 pages in 18 languages for 38 subsidiaries from 27 countries were successfully migrated. In the first month after the switch, the portal grew to 6,000 pages.

This translates to a website which includes custom and built-in functionality for the following: careers job board portal, locations map, sample calendars, investor news and newsletter signup, and 27 LTC location microsites which include their own map, photo gallery and news content. Content migration and third party integration was also necessary to transfer functionality from the old site to the new one.

The new Speight's site is a collaboration between the Design team at Shine, the Production team at The Space Inbetween and Kentico Developers at Digital Arts Network. It's a fully responsive website, meaning it can service multiple device types (desktop, mobile, table) with no server-side effort required. It takes advantage of Kentico's Bizforms to produce easily configurable regular competitions and ties in with a 3rd party customer database by extending the Kentico membership system. Visits have doubled since the site relaunch and mobile use has increased from 6% to over 30%.

Rate My Employer is a complete rebuild of a community website that enables users to rate their Canadian employer. One of the biggest challenges of the site was the huge amount of information to sort through. With over 7,000 companies, over 35,000 ratings and countless comments, this site tests the limits of Kentico CMS. However, with careful architecture of the backend and fine-tuned SQL queries, r42 communication have been able to make the site even smoother than its predecessor, which was built with pure ASP.NET.

As the name suggests, Complete Function Hire provide everything that a person or a company needs for their function or event. They wanted a new site that went beyond hiring glasses and chairs, to be focused on creating the user’s perfect event with the products available. This shift, providing us with an opportunity to design a site that created a mood and a style, rather than focusing on the individual product itself. Next, the user needed to have an enjoyable experience that suggested ease and simplicity. Where possible, the page was developed to show hidden elements which reduced page refreshes and gave the user the info they wanted quickly. The site has effectively changed the market’s perception of CF Hire and, in part, their perception of themselves. This site exceeded the client’s goals and we believe meets the users’ expectations.

Build it is a group of over 285 retailers in Southern Africa that specialize in building materials and related hardware. Their new website features a fresh design and information architecture that showcases corporate and product information. A major draw card to the site is the searchable collection of do-it-yourself home building tips and videos. One of the challenges during the project involved developing a store finder that synchronized store contact details and GPS coordinates with the company intranet. The website layout uses responsive design techniques to automatically scale content to suit various types of devices. Business stakeholders, content managers and customers have been very positive about the new website.
