Widget Control Icon Display in Chrome

Sharon Parry asked on March 19, 2017 22:39

The problem I’m experiencing (as well as some of my clients now!) is more an issue with the standard Chrome browser rather than Kentico, but I’m wondering whether anyone knows what’s causing it and what Chrome setting has to be changed to fix it.

I’m using standard Chrome version 57.0.2987.110 (ie, not Chrome canary). As far as I’m aware that’s the latest version. This issue occurs in all versions of Kentico from version 8.* right through to version 10! I first spotted it on my own computer about 9 or 10 months ago, and have just put up with it until now.

The widget control display in content areas does not display the cog icon. So, what you get is just a faintly-outlined box.

I don’t get this issue in Chrome version 49.0.2623.112, running on a PC where I’ve completely disabled automatic update for Chrome. Also, don't get it in Firefox (any version), Safari or IE. AND, interestingly, I don't get it in Google Chrome Canary version 59.0.3044.0. But as Chrome Canary isn't a standard browser installation, I doubt whether many (if any) of my clients would have it installed.

If it was an issue that was caused just by something on my own personal computer I wouldn’t worry about it and I would just put up with it. But my clients have now also started complaining about the same thing.

Hi Sharon,

Actually this is a bug in latest Chrome versions. We had already contacted Chrome about this issue, but unfortunately it is up to chrome to resolve the bug, and they do not have our 7-day policy.

Sharon, sometimes I'm experiencing this issue when switching between HTTP and HTTPS.

Try opening incognito window in Chrome (the one you have issue in) and check if you can see cog. In case you can, most likely, your Chrome cached something incorrectly, so you might need to clear browser cache.

Hi Roman,

Sorry but no, no difference at all. Re: clearing browser cache - I don't think that has anything to do with it, as I regularly clear browser cache - sometimes half a dozen times or more a day when I'm actually developing a site.
