Portal User Locked out through invalid login attempts

In a portal web site, when a user is locked out after (n) login attempts, an email is generated which has a reset login and a forgotten password link in it. That's fine and works.

There is also a link for [forgotten password] on the login form which informs that it will send an email. - clicks this link the login displays a [user Not found] message but user is in the system so surely system should send link email?

Maybe its not finding the user because the user account is disabled. You would have to check in the webpart to see if there are checks for disabled accounts in the forgotten password part.
