Best directory to store webfonts

James Jarrett asked on March 3, 2014 12:58

Where is the best place to store webfonts? In the /App_Themes/ directory or in a Media Library directory?

/App_Themes/ directories require some additional work to enable their usage for webfonts: http://devnet.kentico.com/forums/f65/fp2/t36618/how-to-update-allowed-file-types-in-css-themes

Any other considerations in choosing a location?

Hello James,

You can save your webfonts in any directory inside a project folder you want but it might be necessary to add new MIME types in your IIS Manager to let Kentico CMS know about some uncommon extensions for fonts. You can do it by following Developer's Guide - IIS Configuration.

Apart from that, there is no other configuration needed to be done.

Best regards, Filip Ligac

Guess the editor doesn't like my comments.

I always store them in the App_Themes/< sitename >/Fonts directory for simplicity sake. The link you shared, is simply to add/remove the fonts via the Kentico UI. I'd suggest not making the modifications and simply adding them via the file system as once they are there, they typically don't change.
