Have you heard about the new way Google can tell whether a form was submitted by a human and not a robot? However hard it may be to believe, it just takes one click in one checkbox. It is true. And if you like this new "no CAPTCHA" CAPTCHA, I have a good news for you. You can now easily use it with Kentico!

Architecture matters!

Štěpán Kozák    —       —    Article

As a Solution Architect, I very often deal with clients’ websites getting slower and slower until they reach the point at which even the Kentico UI stops responding. That’s usually the point where we (the consulting department) are called in to help solve the urgent situation. Of course, we can always do something to get the website running again, but such a situation is usually caused by bad non-scalable architecture and a misconfiguration of Kentico or the IIS and could be avoided. The purpose of this article is to emphasize how important it is to think about architecture carefully when building a complex website. I’ll demonstrate this in two real-life examples.

As a Solution Architect, I'm often asked questions related to correct configuration of the Smart Search functionality, or about the Smart Search not working as expected. I‘ve prepared another "troubleshooting" poster that illustrates the proceudre I follow when trying to identify what the cause of a particular issue is with Smart Search, along with typical solutions that exist for these types of problems.

How to correctly implement a custom macro method

Štěpán Kozák    —       —    Article
I’ve recently been getting a lot of questions about how to add custom functionality in macros. The common answer is to implement your custom macro method. It’s a pretty simple and elegant solution. It’s also really well described in our documentation as to how to register your custom method. However, it’s not described how to correctly implement the body of your method. Of course it’s up to you as it’s your custom logic ... but there are few things you need to keep in mind in order to make sure your custom method does not introduce a security issue on your website and that it’s also reusable (100% compatible with macro engine features, usable for multilingual websites, etc.). There are 4 very common mistakes I see in implementations of custom macro methods that I’ll address in this article.

How to search contents of RTF files using Smart Search

Štěpán Kozák    —       —    Article
As I mentioned in my Kentico 8 preview article about Smart Search quite a while ago, Kentico 8 comes with full support for indexing the content of attachment files. The list of support files is quite extensive, however there are still some common files missing. In this article I’ll add support for RTF files which is not among files supported out of the box.

As macros are now an inseparable part of most Kentico applications and are being used more and more, it is crucial to understand how the macro engine works, how to implement your websites in Kentico using macros, and how to deal with possible issues. I'd like to follow up on a recent article about macros in Kentico 8 (http://devnet.kentico.com/articles/kentico-8-technology-macro-improvements) with a macro troubleshooting poster depicting how to solve a macro-related issue.
