Shipping customization improvements

   —
When it comes to shipping calculations, each country, business and order is different. Let's have a look at how Kentico 8.2 can help you to satisfy all these crazy needs.
Up till now, whenever developers wanted to customize shipping calculations to satisfy clients’ specific needs, they had to use complicated mechanisms and API. This makes upgrades to and maintenance of such customization quite difficult. But now, Kentico 8.2 dramatically simplifies how developers can customize shipping calculations.

What's new?

Simply put, developers can now make shipping customization a standalone module. To be more specific, developers can create both online shipping calculations (e.g. via Fedex) and offline shipping calculation (e.g. custom shipping charges based on weight) as modules that can be easily reused for other projects. On top of that, we built best practices for developers, to help them create their custom shipping modules

How does it work?

1) The developer uses our new shipping interface to implement the shipping calculation logic (e.g. calculation via an online shipping provider or via a custom logic).
2) The developer then creates a custom UI for the store manager to configure the online shipping provider (e.g. logon credentials for Fedex) or to configure the shipping charges directly in Kentico (e.g. using a custom table with shipping-based-on-country charges)
3) All this is then packed as a module that can be reused for another project.
