Installation on GoDaddy hosting

We have encountered several problems with installation on GoDaddy in the past. Unfortunately we were not able to manage some kind of partnership with this hosting provider. But we were provided with testing accounts - thanks to EMPHoster (www.emphoster.com) and David for the test accounts. Thank you!

The installation went without problems. One remarkable note is that GoDaddy is using Medium trust environment.

One option is to run the site locally on your computer, set the database using the DB installer and then run the deployment as described in the Medium trust configuration (Virtual path provider paragraph). If you have already uploaded the web project files and folders via FTP to the hosting server, you only need to upload new created folders listed in the previously mentioned article. If not, you need now to upload the whole project folder to the hosting server.
Second option, if you do not have SQL server installed on your local computer, is to ask GoDaddy support to grant you with disk write permissions, so you can perform the disk deployment from web browser after you set the DB on the hosting.

Below are described steps how to set the GoDaddy account for your domain. You can find the images in this package (placing them into the text would it make them too small and unreadable):

1) After you will sign into your GoDaddy account, please navigate to the “Domain manager” (image step01.jpg)

2) Click on your domain and in the next page please find the “Manage hosting accounts” link (step02.jpg).

3) After the new account is created click on “Setup Account” (step04.jpg – step07.jpg) and set the FTP account login credentials. It can take up to 30 minutes to create and activate your FTP account.

4) Then, if “Manage account” link is available instead of “Setup account”, you should be able to get to the hosting settings. Please click on the “Databases” (step08.jpg) and create new database (step09.jpg). Again, it may take several minutes to create the DB.


5) When the DB is created, click on the pencil icon on the right (step10.jpg) – you should see the SQL server name (host name) and DB name (step11.jpg). Do not click on the link “Manage via web admin”.

6) So, if you have finished uploading files via FTP, please navigate to your web site in the browser. The DB installer should be displayed (step12.jpg)

7) In the DB setup – step 2 (step13.jpg) please select to use existing DB.

8) If you will receive message like it is on step14.jpg image, you will need to modify the web.config file manually and add the connection string.

Following these steps we were able to install and run Kentico CMS on GoDaddy hosting. We hope you will be successful as well.
