from the example above I am not sure what kind of image is displayed correctly and which is not.

1. Could you please clarify?
2. Where are you storing your images? In the database or file system?
3. Could you please share your image configuration? In the Site Manager - Settings - System - files. Sometimes is needed to check option Use site-specific subfolders for custom files folder.
4. How are you displaying images? Are they generated by a transformation?
