Hundreds of thousands of users?
Is it common for Kentico sites to support hundreds of thousands of users? How about sites that support user customization/widgets?

RE:Hundreds of thousands of users?
Hello,

Actually, hundreds of thousands of users isn't any problem with Kentico CMS. Of course, you need the appropriate hardware, fairly well prepared site etc. But this goes hand in hand though.

I think that the following article speaks for itself: http://devnet.kentico.com/Blogs/Petr-Passinger/September-2010/Top-3-websites-with-the-highest-traffic-running-on.aspx and will answer your question.

Regarding your second question, what do you mean in particular? Could you please describe it in more details?

Best regards
Ondrej Vasil

RE:Hundreds of thousands of users?
I'm sorry, I was unclear. I mean authenticated/membership users, who would have the ability to customize a personal homepage.

I wouldn't anticipate the majority of users being logged in constantly, but many would be logging in several times per week.

RE:Hundreds of thousands of users?
Hello,

this question, however, is kind of harder to answer. It's because it really depends on your hardware and hosting/server environment at all and the things that users do on the site.

It means that the info about the logged users is stored in a session either located in the RAM memory or in the database. If you store it in database, it is more reliable, but significantly slower I guess. Therefore, I would recommend you to store it the standard way in memory and make sure there is enough RAM on the server.

In conclusion, if we are speaking about hundreds of thousands of users, it should be OK with Kentico CMS, but of course you need to have appropriate hardware for it.

Best regards
