Can't edit website in "Edit" > "Page" in CMS Desk?
Can't edit any page in my website? My "Edit" window looks no different than the "Preview" and "Live Site". All edit fields have disappeared? This has been happening on and off for a few days. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I am experiencing the same issue. Did you create your own layout for the impacted pages? Until we have a resolution to this issue you can go to properties>template>Inherit content and check "Select inherited levels." This will fix the issue where you cannot edit the page.

RE:Can't edit website in "Edit" > "Page" in CMS Desk?
I did a little more checking and I noticed the following when I created a new template in 4.x:

The templates inherited content was checked as "Inherit all." This can be found and adjusted in site manager>page templates and than locate the new template. Within the general tab of the new template check "Select inherited levels" and "Level0" under Inherit content. I am not 100% positive but it appears that when the admin creates a template in 4.x, it automatically sets the inherit content as "Inherit all" for the new template. In 3.x I believe it set the inherit content as "Select inherited levels" and "Level0."

By resolving this here (Site Manager) the admin avoids updating each and every page created using the desired "new" template within CMS Desk.

Let me know if this resolves your issue.

Hi all,

With the inheritance you may be right. This was changed in 4.0 version because in previous version there were sometimes serious problems if it was not set. So we decided to set the inheritance by default in this way to avoid the exceptions.

RE:Can't edit website in "Edit" > "Page" in CMS Desk?
Not sure if I'm replying to this correctly, I'm a designer, not a programmer and a newbie to all this. So far I have only created custom templates for my Kentico sites and do not use the templates provided with Kentico. I was told by a programmer that there are conflicts between Kentico CMS Desk and the new Internet Explorer 7 and to switch over to Firefox. I switched over and the problem hasn't occurred since and my CMS Desks are all running much faster too.

The are no error messages. The editing fields disappear and the pages looks like it was in "Preview" mode. I'm on a PC using Vista and Norton 360 if that helps.

So far so good, no more problems editing Kentico 4.0 now that I switched over to Firefox.

Hello,

it may be some problem with view mode that is stored in cookie. Could you please eventually try to delete cookies in your IE7 browser?

Best Regards,

So far it's working fine since I deleted the cookies as you suggested.
