Using NEWS from external Database...
I have an external database. It has all kind of NEWS (in a different format, but still have title, date, content...). Now I created a new web-site using Kentico 3.1a, and I want to import my NEWS in my external database into the new web-site instead of creating NEWS document manually (one-by-one)... How can I do that? Do I have to write a brand new NEWS lists user-control to connect to that database?

Thanks in advance.

RE:Using NEWS from external Database...
Hi,

IT would be better to use our SQL Import tool to import the news to the Kentico CMS database and then handle them as usual - http://www.kentico.com/docs/devguide/how_to_use_the_sql_import_util.htm. I hope it will help.

RE:Using NEWS from external Database...
Hi,

can this import tool also be pointed at Oracle 8i (8.1.7) as a source database? Any alternatives/recommendations for such a kind of import (news, news as blog entries, forum)? I'm thinking of relaunching several business web apps that are build in classic ASP using Oracle. Kentico CMS is on my short list, but I still have to evaluate*.

* I would like to start tests with the latest version, is there already a date and feature list for v3.2, please?

Thanks,
Jim

RE:Using NEWS from external Database...
Hi,
as it is written in the link I sent previously - "The SQL Import utility allows you to import data from a Microsoft SQL Server database...". So, Oracle DB is not supported.

Here you can find the roadmap - http://www.kentico.com/cms-asp-net-features/Roadmap.aspx

Hi Juraj,
thanks for you reply.

> as it is written in the link I sent previously
Yes, I noted that, I can read ;-). But on the other hand the config param shown in that doc is a plain vanilla standard SourceConnectionString and the SELECT query shown in that doc is a plain vanilla SQL string. So from my perspective there may be a fraction of a chance that it may just work with Oracle, therefore I asked. Has it really been tested already?

In case that it wouldn't work I asked for your alternatives and/or recommendations how to import data from Oracle. Maybe some of your other customers went down that road already?

>Here you can find the roadmap
I noted that before, too. It states "November 2008" and "tentative list ". Let me rephrase my question, please:
Is there already a _final_ date and _final_ feature list for v3.2?
Just curious how long I would have to wait or if I should start an evaluation install on basis 3.1a

I am considering buying a (server) license for one of my customers (german automotive industry), please support me. Thanks very much.

RE:Using NEWS from external Database...
Hi,

Since we do not support Oracle DB it was not tested and also I am not aware of any other customer that had tried it. Maybe you can try to convert the Oracle DB to MS SQL. This is what I have found using Google - http://www.sharewarecheap.com/Oracle-to-MSSQL_software_1102.html or http://www.pdf-to-html-word.com/databaseconverter/.

Unfortunately the Roadmap link I have provided you with is official. There is no exact date scheduled. Our developers are testers are hardworking (even on weekends). This version is focused on social networking so related features had the highest priority.
